The film, made by Susan Froemke, has several St. Louis connections; chief among them is tenor Alek Shrader, who made his professional debut at Opera Theatre of St. Louis as Count Alma viva in Rossini’s Barber of Seville, and has returned in other leading roles since then. Shrader triumphs with O Mes Am is, the yes-that nine-high-Cs aria that terrifies tenors but gives new meaning to the phrase money notes.
